Arts Scene

The Walker Art Center holds one of the most significant contemporary art collections in the USA, with many special events. Adjacent to the Walker, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is well worth exploring; see Claes Oldenburg’s iconic Spoon and Cherry Bridge.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts holds art from all over the world, from prehistory to today. There are many good small independent downtown Minneapolis galleries.

The Tony Award-winning Guthrie Theatre is renowned for its program of contemporary and classic drama. The Orpheum Theatre hosts touring companies and acts performing big musicals and concerts.

Classical music lovers are well served by the Minnesota Opera and Minnesota Orchestra.

Nightlife/Bars

Downtown Minneapolis has rich nightlife and bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. Block E is a famous entertainment district where you will find the Hard Rock Café, which holds memorabilia from one of the Twin Cities’ most famous sons, Prince.

Minneapolis has produced many famous musicians from Bob Dylan to the Replacements.

Check out their musical heirs in one of the city’s many venues, such as Epic, which still bears interior design traces of its legendary earlier incarnation as Prince’s Club Grand Slam.

Gay Nineties is the city’s most Bohemian night club, with three floors of musical mayhem and drag queens for a gay and mixed clientele.

The Dakota Jazz Cub and Restaurant is rather more sedate and sophisticated, attracting the biggest names in jazz.

The Acme Comedy Club plays host to top and up-and-coming comics.

The Warehouse District is another good area for shopping by day, and drinking and dining in the evening.

Sporting Events/Teams

Target Center is home to the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx, high school basketball, hockey and wrestling tournaments.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is home to the NFL's Minnesota Vikings.

The Metrodome hosts numerous other sporting events, concerts and expo/shows throughout the year.

Target Field is the new home to the Minnesota Twins baseball team. Target Field will feature one of the closest seating bowls to the playing field in all of Major League Baseball and is only a short walk from the Marquette.

The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team found a new home in the TCF Bank Stadium. Enjoy the thrill and excitement of college football outdoor on the University of MN campus - located only three miles away.

Minneapolis Festivals

Downtown Minneapolis is host to numerous events and happenings all year long. The longest running is the Minneapolis Aquatennial, a celebration of water! This is the City of Lakes after all.

The Holidazzle Parade is a daily street procession that happens each year from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The Basilica Block Party, Hot Summer Jazz Festival, Uptown Art Fair, and The Fringe Festival are other popular events.
